Highly Immersive Visualization Environment (HIVE)
The HIVE (Highly Immersive Visualization Environment) is a state of the art 3D visualization facility within the Earth Science Department of the University of the Western Cape. This facility has been established through a reciprocal investment agreement between BP and UWC and is aimed at creating a modernized virtual environment for advanced research in academia, especially in Earth Sciences.
This facility has been equipped with a variety of seismic, reservoir, mining and structural modeling software (including Petrel®, Midland Valley Move®, Kingdom Suite®, Surpac®, Geovisionary®, etc.) in combination with advanced projection and computing facilities, making this a truly unique tool suitable for data modeling, management and analysis. The stereoscopic 3D capabilities of the HIVE allows for data visualization in an exceptional manner providing methods for data interpretation through various modeling techniques.
