Main Outcomes

On  completion of this module student will be able to:

  •  Recognize igneous and metamorphic rocks and associated textures in hand specimen and under the microscope

 

  •  Relate the changes in the mineralogy of igneous rocks to the variation in the chemistry of the rocks

 

  •  Have a conceptual understanding of the rocks, associated textures and various igneous and metamorphic rock forming processes

 

  •  Know the principles of concentration of mineral deposits in the context of various geological processes

 

  •  Understand the occurrence of various genetic types of ore deposits in relation to associated host rocks, mineralogy of ores, ore grade and geological setting

 

  •  Have a conceptual understanding of ore deposit formation and various geological processes as well as ore deposit exploration and evaluation
  •  Have an understanding of advanced concepts in geochemistry and their application in ore deposits study 
  •  Acquire and analyze geochemical data
  •  Have a conceptual understanding of element dispersion and isotopic fractionation and its application in ore deposit studies.

  •  Magmatic, hydrothermal and sedimentary ore deposits and ore deposit models

 

  •  Concepts of mineral exploration and ore deposits evaluation

 

  •  Application of advance geochemical concepts in geology; aqueous solutions, isotope geochemistry, thermodynamics and surficial equilibria

 

  • Introduction to exploration geochemistry
