RULES FOR THE MSc DEGREE

Admission

Unless Senate determines otherwise and subject to rule A.2.4.2,

(a) A student must have obtained an Honours degree with a C-average in Geology, or

(b) extensive practical experience in any of the specialisations.

(c) In the case of applicants without a Honours degree, additional information on the following aspects must be submitted on application:

  • Curriculum vitae detailing all previous work experience and the period of employment; 
  • Referee reports from current and previous employers;
  • Any other information as may be required.

 

Duration

Rule A.4.3 will apply.

 

Curriculum

A thesis dealing with an original research topic must be presented.

 

GEL801 Geology Magister Thesis

The Chairperson of the Department may prescribe additional undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Geology or related subjects as required for the intended research.

 

Assessment

Rule A.5.4 will apply.

 

Progress

Rule A.4.3 will apply.

 

Petroleum Geology (Mini-thesis and Course Work)  (120 Credits)

Admission

Unless Senate determines otherwise and subject to rule A.2.4.2,

(a) A student must have obtained an Honours degree with a C-average in Geology, or

(b) extensive practical experience in any of the specialisations.

(c) In the case of applicants without a Honours degree, additional information on the following aspects  must be submitted on application:

Compulsory Modules

APG816  Reservoir Modelling 816 - (20 Credits)

APG817 Field and Reservoir Managent 817 - (20 Credits)

APG818 Intergrated Syndicate Exercise 818 - (20 Credits)

APG803 Mini-thesis 803 - (60 Credits)

Students who have not taken APG706/707/711/ or 714 may  be prescribed additional work by the Department.

RULES FOR THE PhD DEGREE

Admission

Unless Senate determines otherwise and subject to rule A.2.5,

A student shall have obtained an MSc degree or an equivalent qualification in  in the relavent or related field of study in order to be admitted to the PhD degree.

Duration

The duration of the degree is subject to rule A.4.5 in the University Calendar  Part 1.

 

Curriculum

A thesis, on an approved original research topic, must be presented in one of the following:
